“Squeak?”
“Did you say something?” Ilmarė asked Kham.
Kham blinked back at her. “What?”
“I thought I heard you say something.”
“Not me,” said Kham. “I was just—“
“Squeak?”
Beldin peered at Kham. “That definitely came from you.”
Something wriggled in Kham’s coat. Kham lifted a tiny serpent out of the folds of his pockets.
