My I-CON 31 schedule

Guest speakers are invited from around the world to share their experiences in their fields, information about any new or upcoming projects and their insights into the genre with their fans. Over the course of the convention, guests typically will participate in panel discussions, give workshops and demonstrations, sign autographs, and interact with their fans on a one on one basis in such venues as the Award Banquet. Awfully Familiar Available for Preorder!

Everyone knows the legend of the Pied Piper, but there's more to the story: What happened to the rats? What happened to the children? When a spell goes awry in a rat-baiting competition, Scrap discovers he's a little of both. In this whimsical coming of age tale, a running battle between Black's gang of pickpockets and Piper's summoned vermin spills out into the streets of Calximus City. Scrap and his companion Switch must navigate the aristocracy and underworlds of rodent and human alike to solve the mystery of their roots. Along the way he'll make friends of rat and man; survive cats, goblins, ogres, and witches; and if he's smart enough, kind enough, and believes enough, Scrap just might save the kingdom…and himself. You can buy it for $14.95 from Dark Quest Books.

Many military veterans are in real need of assistance in their search for employment, said Michael Tresca, manager, human resources recruiting communications at Fairfield-based GE.

"GE and the GE Vets Network are going around the country to more than 400 U.S. Chamber of Commerce career fair events, offering skills training," he said, adding many veterans aren't equipped with a resume. GE staffers also attend many of these events, seeking to fill jobs and offering veterans the opportunity to join 10,000 other veterans at GE facilities.

My Interviews with the Wall Street Journal

I was interviewed by Joseph Walker of the Wall Street Journal for two articles. The first, Young Job Seekers Turn to Smartphones, was prompted by GE's results through PotentialPark:
Some companies are already onto the trend. AT&T Inc. has offered mobile tools for job-seekers since 2009. When users click on the company's careers site from their smartphones, it identifies their device and directs them to a page designed for that phone. The company uses location-aware technology to return the job listings nearest to the user, said Jennifer Terry, director of staffing strategic initiatives.General Electric Co. is in the process of developing a GE Careers iPad app that will be available later this year, said Michael Tresca, who leads the company's online recruiting efforts.
The second, The Coming Revolution in Mobile Job Hunting, was about mobile devices and how they're used by candidates to search for jobs:
Other companies have focused on developing download-able applications. In addition to the mobile-optimized job pages it launched over a year ago, General Electric is in the process of developing a GE Careers app that will be available in the iTunes app store later this year, said Michael Tresca, who leads the company's online recruiting efforts. He predicts that the company's recruiting will increasingly take into account the growing popularity of smartphones. "In the future we're going to have to provide more and more mobile access," Tresca says.
